چکیده

this work describes a route for recovering nickel, cobalt, iron, zinc and lanthanides from spent nickel-metal hydride batteries. Formic acid was used as leachant. Experiments were run at 25-50°C 1-4 h. Under the best conditions leaching yields surpassed 99 wt.%, except iron. The insoluble matter contains almost solely iron iron(III) basic formate. leachate went through six separation procedures, combining solvent extraction with D2EHPA extractant, precipitation reactions. Fe2+ Zn2+ extracted together (> wt.%) original (pH ~1.5). Yttrium precipitated oxalates directly raffinate 99.9 upon addition of sodium oxalate. In next steps, Mn2+ Co2+ buffered pH (3 ~4.8, respectively), after adding NaOHaq. About 10 wt.% leached Ni2+ coextracted Co2+. remaining aqueous oxalate 6. After Al3+ until ~8, formate recovered slow evaporation final solution 60oC. It ~90 present in

METALS RECOVERY FROM SPENT Zn-MnO2 BATTERIES BY HYDROMETALLURGY

A hydrometallurgical process for recycling spent Zn-MnO2 batteries was developed, involving leaching with sulfuric acid, purification by precipitation and metals separation for further recovery. Leaching of zinc oxide was easily attained while for manganese oxide was rather difficult depending on temperature and acid concentration. At 90oC and with the liquid/solid ratio of 20 L/kg, more than 9...

Leaching Process for the Recovery of Valuable Metals from Spent Lithium- Nickel-cobalt-manganese-oxide-based Lithium-ion Batteries

This study focused on the leaching process for the recycling of Li, Ni, Co, and Mn from the LiNixCoyMnzO2 (NCM) cathodes of spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Eh–pH diagrams were used to analyze suitable leaching conditions. Operating variables, such as the concentration of H2SO4 (0.5–2.5 M), concentration of H2O2 (0–1 vol%), temperature (10–50 °C), stirring speed (400–800 rpm), and solid/liqu...

A New Thermal Process for the Recovery of Metals from Zinc-carbon and Alkaline Spent Batteries

The aim of this study is the thermal recovery of manganese and zinc from a mixture of zinc-carbon and alkaline spent batteries containing 40.9% of Mn and 30.1% of Zn after a preliminary physical treatment. Separation of the metals is carried out on the basis of their different phase change temperatures, the boiling point of zinc being 906°C and 1564°C that of Mn3O4, the main Mn-bearing phase in...

A Study on the Extraction of Cd(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) Ions by Bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric Acid and 2-Thenoyltrifluoroacetone

Keep in mind the importance of cadmium, cobalt and nickel ions as environmentally and economically strategic heavy metals, the application of two acidic extractants, named bis(2-diethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (DEHPA) and 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA), was assessed for the extraction-recovery of these ions from leached solution of spent rechargeable Ni-Cd batteries. The conditions for leach...

Recovery of cobalt sulfate from spent lithium ion batteries by reductive leaching and solvent extraction with Cyanex-272

Cobalt sulfate was recovered from crushed and screened prismatic type spent lithium ion batteries (LIBs) containing 5~20 % Co, 5~7 % Li, 5~10 % Ni, 15% organic chemicals, and 7% plastics together with Cu, Al, Fe, and Mn. Cobalt was reductively leached from the -16 mesh fraction in 1 h by stirring with 2 M H2SO4 and 6 vol% H2O2, at 60 C and 300 rpm using a solid/liquid ratio of 100 g/L to give a...
